Things to do

Located in the heart of the village, Seagulls is a short walk from the beach, local shops, and the village’s two pubs: The Anchor and The Bell.

You can go crabbing in the village’s harbour, take a boat trip up the River Blyth, or use the foot ferry to stroll into Southwold. By car, you can quickly reach nearby Covehithe, Aldeburgh, Orford Ness, and Thorpeness for more adventures.

For explorers, the Nature Reserve offers dramatic walks to the sea and multiple trails into Dunwich Heath. We love cycling to The Ship in Dunwich for a drink, then heading up to the old Coast Guard’s cottages for cake and the glorious view over Sole Bay.

Nature lovers will enjoy the nature reserve, nearby RSPB Minsmere and Orford Ness, which provide access to some of the UK’s rarest birds, including avocets, bearded tits, and bitterns. In the summer months, you’re likely to see local hunting marsh harriers, and later in the year, you might be lucky enough to witness the dramatic murmurations above the marshes.

Also not to be missed: the Thorington Open Theatre, running June to August, First Light Festival in late June, and Latitude in late July.
